2017 Toyota Tacoma Road Test
2017 Toyota Tacoma Road Test - It’s the gateway truck for a lifetime of truck addiction, the Americanized version of the world’s wheeled beast of burden, and precisely the right truck for carrying large dogs that shed. And the updated 2017 version of the Toyota Tacoma enters production hauling a birthright as the new small pickup that depreciates in value most slowly.
But it’s that deep Toyota truck legacy that’s holding the Tacoma back, too. Because Toyota has always been conservative and while this compact pickup is new, it’s not all new. Sometimes that’s not an advantage.
The last time I spent significant time with our 2017 Toyota Tacoma was back in May of this year. I write an update of fuel for the month and wrap it with: "I love our Tacoma, but hope to get fuel economy is dramatically better than a full-size trucks may not be realized during this test."
..bohio commenter replied: "... ya think How replicates a im to get fuel even a little better, because the 'dramatic' is - in addition to being the wrong choice of words - not easily defined Would 2 mpg improvement over the F150 or Tundra ?. a being a 'dramatic' better? "
Fair enough. Sure, I'll take a 2 mpg better. But as you can probably guess, the fuel economy Tacoma we had not moved during the summer.
Currently, this Tacoma posting lifetime average of 18.3 mpg. Back in May, it was 18.2. If there is a silver lining, it's that we recorded a new high fill-up this month from 21.3 mpg.
Incidentally, the EPA has posted its estimate for 2018 Ford F-150 with an updated twin-turbo, 375-hp 3.5-liter V6 and a 10-speed automatic transmission: 19 mpg combined (17 mpg city / 22 mpg highway).
Fill the worst MPG: 15.7
Fill Best MPG: 21.3
Average MPG Lifetime: 18.3
EPA MPG Rating: 20 Combined (18 City / 23 Highway)
Best Range: 362.7 miles
Odometer today: 14135
